old media strangles the young @newstatesman wikileaks
Julian Assange speech, New Statesman/Frontline Club debate
i "listened" to this over the chat relay which was permitted by the anti-streaming bureaucracy which seemed to prefer the more edited video relay authority.
it was funny to be on the chat board with the others who wondered where is the stream? where are the youtubers?
for wikileaks to give oratory at an anti-newmedia kind of event seemed ultra ironic to those of us who wanted to be there or hear it/see it instantly.
the official footage came out eventually, but not in time to fix our broken hearts about the war.
i wonder how assange feels about the anti-internet and anti-newmedia regulation by his "media partners"
does he know west coast left coast pirate culture expects free culture??????
we are the most die-hard.
and i think it is possible for the commodified regulated old stuffy british media slow-tech anti-internet approach to
co-exist with the streaming instantaneous relay ethos and youtube culture.
its not as though bono is going to get on the stage and start cursing.
now truly that new statesman wizard showed assange some neocon teeth and the chat relay people went on and on about assange's arms folded, but once you hear the content of what he is saying you realize how valuable this transmission is and how much more valuable would it be to have more angles more google hits video plays transcript and commentary.
which shackling the new media feels near akin to taking us out in handcuffs, as in days of yore when a cardboard banner or heckle or folk song was the only place of free expression.
as now we, the young participate in content production, it feels a shame to allow the OLD MEDIA OF ENGLAND continue to try to strangle us, especially when it regards something as important as Wikileaks content on Iraq and Vietnam.
