"This is Amy, one of Hart Noecker's victims ...Aaron Mesh said he can't legally publish because we reference our many cases of sexual assault"
This is Amy, one of Hart Noecker's victims that Cecilia quoted in this piece. First, I just wanted to thank Cecilia publicly for writing this piece and going about it in such a thoughtful and respectful way. This is so much better than the libelous, inaccurate garbage that the Willamette Week published, and it really means a lot to us survivors to have our experiences written about with care by someone who gets it.
A couple things for anyone who's interested in learning more about this. First, if you do read the Willamette Week piece that Cecilia linked to, I encourage you to read a couple other things that correct all their inaccuracies and give a much more complete and truthful picture of what's been going on. First, this directly clarifies many of the things that WW got wrong and should be required reading for anyone directly after:http://abusiveanarchist.tumblr.com/post/110091295...
This is the survivor response that we submitted as a letter to the editor of the WW, which the reporter, Aaron Mesh, said he can't legally publish because we reference our many cases of sexual assault and, according to him, ''it's not sexual assault if you didn't explicitly say no.'' (which is pretty hard to do when you're unconscious!):http://abusiveanarchist.tumblr.com/post/109055546...
if you *do* read that WW piece and feel so inclined, it would be appreciated if you left a comment calling them out on their victim blaming. Personally, i don't want the WW to think that page views = ''good job on this stellar reporting!''. Or you can upvote other responses from the survivors & their allies. At this point, i don't know how else to try to communicate to WW that they've done wrong.
and lastly, if you're particularly interested in the process of community response and accountability that we've been going through here in portland, the counterpunch piece that is linked in this article is really good.
