Kerensa made the threat after he was told he did not have the proper credentials to attend portions of the Oracle World computer conference at the downtown San Francisco convention center, authorities said.

No explosives were found at the Moscone Center or in any of the 11 other instances in which Kerensa allegedly made bomb threats.

Kerensa was arrested Friday by San Francisco police at the mayoral campaign offices ofJim Reid on Market Street, where he volunteered. Reid, who champions homeless causes and rides Municipal Railway buses as part of his campaign, said Kerensa told him he had been homeless for three months when he showed up over the summer to volunteer.

The "small improvised explosive device" was found outside the church, at 232 S.E. 80th Avenue, near a garbage bin about 10:30 a.m., said Sgt. Pete Simpson, a spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau.

Police responded and decided to call out members of the Metropolitan Explosive Disposal Unit, which includes two Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies, plus technicians from the Portland Police Bureau, Gresham Police Department, Clark County Sheriff's Office and the Port of Portland.

A short time later, bomb techs blew up the device, Simpson said. Arson investigators with the Portland Fire Bureau are assisting the bomb squad with the investigation.

A witness, Benjamin Kerensa, said an officer told him the device was a pipe bomb.

Kerensa said he saw agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the FBI take away at least 10 bags of evidence from the scene.

Notoriously aggressive right-wing personality Michael Strickland pulled a Glock pistol on a crowd of Black Lives Matter protesters, screaming “Back off!” Strickland is associated with “Laughing at Liberals,” a YouTube channel that ambushes and mocks leftist protesters.

Bystanders screamed “Hit the ground!” and took cover. Fortunately, a few protesters calmly approached Strickland, talking him down.

Ben Kerensa, 32, was among those who confronted Strickland initially. “We just wanted him to leave,” Kerensa said.

“Strickland takes pictures of women and minorities, puts them online with their names and addresses. He stalks them and harasses them,” he added.

Kerensa told Arun Gupta of Raw Story that Strickland put his hand on his gun before anybody got near him.

“He swept the crowd a few times with the gun,” Kerensa said. “I saw him take out the regular clip and slot in an extra-capacity magazine. I saw him chamber a round.”
