Camerata Cinespace Sunday Nights
Camerata Cinespace Sunday Night is my guiltiest pleasure of the week.
As a thirty-one year old, I feel practically geriatric compared to the youngsters.
But let me tell you why I like it.
Great bands!
Numerous, ridiculously and consistently awesome bands courtesy of promoters Abraham and Elmo, who also plays drums in The Devil’s Orchestra, the resident headliners.
Gorgeous kids with sweet style. Long haired boys, pretty girls that are actually nice, serious music junkies, as this is a seriously awesome consistent musical showcase.
Keith 2.0, the slender suave superhero DJ of mash-up ecstasy. His booth is packed with adorable talent and supporters. Hardcore marathon dancers and lots of Justice, Crookers, MIA, Yelle, and a little pump up the jam just to clear the floor.
Solar System regularly turns the front room into a foggy dub-step multi-media spacetime warp. Harp by Rick from Polyphonic Spree, mind machine, and the dreadlocked Vince with toy keyboards, art.
Live action painting.
The occasional marionettist, George Clinton's Quasimojo.
The great thing about this crowd is that they are super young and stylish, but have not learned how to be cranky snobs yet. Maybe in a few years they’ll be going to seriously pretentious places and putting on airs, but at the moment they are gorgeous, positive, rambunctious, smell delicious, and can tear up a dancefloor. And get in free and drink free vodka before 10:30 pm.
A stunning boy got my number once and I really have to close my eyes to these oh so young hotties. As it turns out, the babe doesn’t even know how to use his Iphone, or whatever.
Great bands I’ve seen there include super-cool Pop Levi, glitzy glam Kate Crash, the brit-popish Idyllists, The Library with hunkish Court (an amazing frontman), Pizza, Dead Sarah, Andy Clockwise . . . . upcoming include the likes of Sorcerer, Thunder from Heaven . . .
The only downside is that the word is out what a fun night it is and it has been so packed lately it’s ridiculous. And the line at the door has gotten a bit obnoxious. So get there early and be prepared to hear some sweet sounds.
i'm giving Abraham, The Devil's Orchestra, and all the uninhibited talent flying through Camerata credit for keeping the neighborhood creatively charged . . . .
