The Widows
The Widows remind me of my childhood fear
of
Black widow spiders. Something so elegant about a band of boys named “The Widows.”
I met these nice widow boys as I wondered who were all the cute people streaming out of Hotel Café? The Widows graciously socialized with their loyal enthusiastic fans.
I wondered what was all the commotion, and then talked briefly with Mike Miller.
And told him I liked all the long hair and beard, a fashion rarity here, but something that makes me nostalgic for the simple life in Oregon.
Mike Miller and the band have hid themselves reclusivly away in the desert forest of the Angeles National Forest north of highway 210.
The widows are a new rock configuration, but they’ve all been at music for a while.
Mike Mazachi, who has done solo folk stuff, has been sent down into the city to publicize the band and book shows and get Hollywood ready for The Widows. Within 30 seconds of their first song on myspace I knew I wanted to get to know them. I thought they must be country boys but they hail from San Fran, New York state, and Connecticut.
Which brings me to the universality of folk music, and so much better with a stomping beat . . . I love the Georgia song . . .
They will be playing The Cobana Club on Cahuenga April 4th and plan on packing the house with their wholesome and comely crowd.
