now on google books: LIMITED PREVIEW: holocaust
looking at all the digital stubs when search "holocaust" on google books
its kind of like copyright erases history
and all that suffering has been swallowed up into an infinity of biodegrading paper
and me, here, stranded in the middle of nowhere
would have better luck with wikipedia
except a new kind of way of reading comes about
the cursory, the restricted, the flexible
now accustomed to all the snippets and omissions
my mind barely complains at the erasures.
and if money bought truth, who might pay to make this info
OPEN ACCESS?
as though the holocaust were some commodifiable thing
or a collaborative copyrightable creative project between actors
authors
and historians
and i as consumer/viewer/connoisseur
must view holocaust as another toll road in an information economy
another luxury i cannot afford
another academic elitism
secret language
the secret language of moneys
and its almost as though copyright is crematorium
and ashes in my mouth
the mandate
"never forget, yet never will you know" falls flat in the devitalized atmosphere where all genocides
get swallowed into infinities of forgetfulness
similarly, all the publicly funded academic research on rape, which now hides behind monetized academic portals
does little good for people now
who suffer now
and the crime of it
the elitism of it
the desperation of
commodifying rape
commodifying holocaust
the erasure
is sickness
i am awaiting google books settlement's commentary on how authors might give full publishing for full view of all works.
this dream of total publishing, accessible anywhere in the world----would illuminate the dark ages of copyright . . .
and so might the compassionate authors who value mind, or of are independent means, or who feel their cultural document precedes the (unlikely) capitalization of it---might permit a life of the mind---a dissolution of identity---
and help end the obliteration of history
the burning of books
the desecration of knowledge
which ousts
the dyslexic and the blind from spheres of knowledge.
contented with little
enjoying poverty
