Music is not the accomplishment

anybody can sing.

But who would want to

who would have enough springtime in the garden of their heart to sing, or especially in public?

And what helps, a beat?

A guitar player?

A blogger telling you how awesome you are?

What is great about creative people is our highs and lows.

When we go low, we go really low.

What keeps us up?

Happy, inspired, alive, childlike, and learning?

Who showed us the darkness?

Who will show us the light?

A man on the corner told me I should obey the word of god.

Surely, wisdom.

Listening to beck and charlotte gainsbourg non-stop since saturday.

Amazingly wake up to it and hear it during lecture as background.

Nick maybury let me listen to his new track.

Something about

his heart a mess.

I want to pirate out the melody, because it is so cute and uplifting.

He made it all himself playing his own bass and drums.

I had heard it a week before.

Then he let me hear the new part

part two where it goes from nineties grunge-rock ballad to a poppy mod twist dance beat with vocal loops.

And that's when we started layering vocals and he added more guitar into the conversation.

I think the reason he is and will be so sought after isn't just that he is an amazing guitar player.

I think it is more about the energizing effect he has.

And his polish.

He is so polite and propper and stylish, it makes one aspire to be more like him.

But instead of a big ego, he has the spontaneous joyousness of a truly whimsical optimist.

Just being around him gives me a fizzy buzz.

I know depressing things are hard on him too.

He always sees the best side of people, and many times I have seem him refrain from saying unkind words.

He is very careful with words.

I think he is a master diplomat and an internet marketing genius.

I imagine he will live a very long life and have many many friends. I told him, he'd make a great actor, precisely because he is so sincere, and so enthusiastic, and optimistic.

He is also more intelligent than is safe for a person to be, so it is better hidden under the overwhelmingly kind and caring and gracious demeanor.

I think of his brother tim maybury, an arts expert with a flare for philosophy. He is so handsome, and astute in different ways about different things. I hope to meet all of the family one day.

They remind me of daniel martin's family in Nashville.

Daniel studied chinese and russian and flew planes at seventeen. They homeschooled and had a lot of books. They lived in a gigantic house. Their kitchen had many wonderful kinds of jam. Daniel is a pilot for southwest now, I heard. He was dating a girl from the famous commune The california-expatriate founded Farm, which pioneered ecological principles.

So when all these wonderful chaps want nicky to come play guitar with them, i'm thinking, aren't they lucky?

To have someone so bright, so positive, so open-minded, so talented, so kind . . .

I write this hoping nicky has touched down safely in korea where he will be playing with leif garrett.

Matt sorum of guns and roses and the darling stilletos wants to continue collaboration, and perry ferrel, too.

Nicky sent me the evite for the moods of norway party monday May 17 at robertson. I wonder if their waffles are vegan.

I watched the footage of nick playing with debbie harry again. I wonder if someone will hurry up and write a wikipedia article on nick yet.

Maybe a website must come first.

If you've met him, you know.

He was perhaps the kindest person you met in hollywood, and humble too.
