braingarbage takes the train
Thinking a lot about electricity
the newness of electric music
nick maybury so humbly said plenty of guitar players are
shreddier than he. We were talking about energies. And how he is sought out because of his amazingly uplifting and gracious, sparkling demeanor.
The legends of music industry are finding him. I think they find solace in his optimism.
Could you compare the intricacies
Bach with the melodic landscapes of Ravel? Why dare? The intricate might just be ornate. But does it make you cry?
Nick helped me to the train today to flee LA for the homeland of trees and family in oregon.
When he played “going insane” I had the distinct realization that whatever happened in LA to keep me put for years, found culmination in the making of this little film.
I am extremely anxious to get the songs as recorded and perfect as nick wants. I think his friend grant fitzpatrick feels the same way. I have a lot of big ideas and dreams about the venture capital approach to the arts. I always wanted to be like the medici family, pouring money into arts and beauty, and nuturing the sensitive soul of the artist. Someone will feel the same.
We are the cognitive capitalists. We have talent, ideas, music, words, blogs, visions for the future. We are trying to find a way to survive.
Peter sunde in sweden has it. Lawrence lessig's free culture gives way. The pirate bay was a giant whale that ate industries . . .
there is more than enough for every belly to be full.
The poverty of los angeles, the conspicuous consumption of homelessness on the streets, the hostility of the new misogynists, send me from los angeles like a refugee.
Even a god can't save me now, oh and so nicholas maybury, sat me down to hear the critical music of jimi hendrix played to the repressed crowd, as grave as a corpse.
I am listening to my bootleg of cameron powell's darkest melvinsy show at cinespace sunday night june 6 2010.
I made a bunch of “sorry about the oil spill” greeting cards. Another band mentioned the oil crisis.
Nicholas is the epicenter.
The darkness of the thunder redux sans snake, sans nick was enough to drive the easy souls away.
I could not be deterred. Cam is the only one fearless enough to go into the darkness of thanatos. Sometimes I think he is the only one that even knows the depths of my despair. And then he performs it. I am healed. He takes us to hades . . . and spits us out into tomorrow
the oil spill happened on the anniversary of “beachwood up in smoke” four-twenty 09video release. I cried all afternoon, feeling a litle dead inside for the words hollow sound . . .
and then nick maybury cares for valhalla.
Visions yin yang.
What nick did for thunder from heaven really bewildered me. It was obvious from the start 2008 fall that his melodic eloquence would help thunder from its darkness. I wasn't prepared to give up the extremity of thunder's grunge nihilism.
Amazingly thunder put out the best album, the most orchestrated rich metal sound, I cannot believe it. Snake and elmo fought to make it the best most textured album ever. And if cam powell, as orchestrator and engineer of the sound idea finds the attention he deserves, oh I do hope.
Nicky told me of the new parts and songs he contributed. The second time I saw nick play with thunder it was at cranes january 09. he added a melodic relief, redemtion, transcendence, coequal with the gravity of the original thunder from heaven.
I have had so many wonderful conversations about music with cam. Our tastes, our region was the region of submerged punk and the represive overculture. Cam powell told me about the virginia punk scene. I was stuck in nashville where the straight-edgers feed the homeless and sing about anarchy and veganism. Cam powell told me about being raw vegan. And how going back to eat meat changed his energy. I told him I thought some brown rice is nice. Balancing, calming. Once I said, cam you are looking well. He said, at least i'm eating.
When hunger chews you up and lives you like a little ball of acid bones to die under the neon sun, that is thunder from heaven.
Thunder from heaven tastes like bulimia. Thunder from heaven heals the bay. Thunder from heaven liberates women. Thunder from heaven for total human liberation.
Ezekiel is running promo ads with the links to the free download of the whole album. Cam gets the end of money as we knew it. His father is as handsome as he is and has a purple heart.
Cam powell screamed from stage, “mary is the coolest woman I ever met, besides val, and she'll probably . . .” but val snyder and I are sisters, and our many loves are transcendent. We are family.
So I want nick maybury to really work on getting his solo stuff recorded. I called my brother gabriel eng about building a website. There needs to be a center, a hub. Nick Maybury might be the nicest guy you meet in hollywood, but it is time to take his music to the people. Life is to short for the studio remaster. I want everything to be out there, like prayers. On soundcloud and downloadable.
I explained how differently I understand his art, with the amazing information I received last tuesday or wednesday. I wish I had made a bookleg.
He played all kinds of tracks from earlier. Like “love” and “going insane” and something jazzy, all of them. I told him this has to go out to the people so we can keep from dying. That sad depressive people like me might kill ourselves before the studio version. So please share it. Everybody share more of everything. Money food ideas justice music. So when you hear the early 2000's nick maybury playing with his amazing brother tim maybury . . . I asked oh this is the KID A era. He said “spot on!” kid A did us all in. I didn't need another album for a year. Thanks radiohead.
I'm listening to our rehearsal from late sunday night. I'm ghosting in for the pj harvey séance. Elliot smith stopped by to say hello, timeless ghost that he is.
I don't want to wait for the basement on the hill.
We need to be his team. First up, he needs to back up on these perfect vintage tracks, pre-mink. And next up get them all over the internet. And then get in studio and make whatever. And give that to the people too. Secret genius is everywhere. We all sit on our secrets, and hide them.
In the future of total human liberation, music will set you free and be free and free humanity. It will break free from the laws of war and money.
So it looks like nickles is ultra busy. I got to meet the ultra gorgeous and charasmatic leif garrett who won my favor instantly by calling me “brainiac.” we need the gorgeous rebel thinker poets like him. In eyeliner and nail polish. He has such a stately magnetism. I was drawn to him, graced by the presence of double scorpio. His beautiful friends amy and henrietta took us out to the baked potato in studio city to hear john ziegler shred it. I told him well, i'm nick maybury's best fan, but . . . and then he said well nick says he's my biggest fan. It was very blues and shreddy. Some riders in storm. A really cool girl sang a song about users. I got to meet leif garrett's posse for the trip to korea. Leif wants to work more with maybury.
Listening to what I want to call thunder redux. Thunder pared down to a bare bones original. Cam powell cuts an elegant figure, as an embodied ghost. He has never been anything but kind and gentle. My art is still hanging on his wal. The genocide art, I felt only he would understand. How genocide is getting in the way of everything.
He sings “let's get the f--- out of here.”
and assassination in congo this week, a voice for th voiceless killed. And genocide stuck in my throat like a fungus, strangling me.
The smoke from the train is cycling into our air supply. It hurts.
So cam has his rough solo stuff he sends to nick. I think he should release that too. Its amazing. Thunder in every incarnation.
