thank you so much for your thoughtful letter expressing so much concern and sensitivity.
i have very great esteem for legally educated persons. i entered paralegal school in 2007 because of my desire to have a meaningful career helping people.
my friendship with Benjamen Pickering began June 28, 2013. My father was given a reference from his father's DC contacts to obtain a job as a social worker in Portland in the late 1960's. His tireless enthusiasm for social work powers my determination to help Ben.
My caregiving experience include work with a Visually Impaired writer and actress who used assistive Technology to write books and continue her work as a writer.
It has been my goal since meeting Ben, to provide for him the healthiest safe learning atmosphere with alternative technological means to assist with his dyslexia and visual impairment.
the beautiful thing about working with Visually Impaired people is that their intellectual "hyperabilities" which compensate for their "disabilities" can be quite astounding.
Ben Pickering, prior to being beaten by Portland Police in May, was attacked in Washington State causing him to have extreme bleeding from the skull. His skull was stapled together. The attacker is called Corey Johnson. He came to Portland to get away from his attacker, only to be mugged at knifepoint, with an attempted sexual assault, prior to being beaten by Portland Police at 8868 NE Sandy. The video oI have read the hospital reports regarding the stapling of his skull. When the Portland Police attacked him, the staples had just been removed from his head. The tenderness of this head along with other medical fragility issues including several car accidents and the original blinding TBI accident which resulted in the life-flight to Emmanuel in Portland in 1995 make the police brutality inappropriate.
Ben Pickering has spoken to Jonas Geissler regarding his preservation for the Federal DOJ case against PPB for excessive force against the disabled.
He is heroic in his willingness to speak to Portland City Council, Multnomah County Commissioners, and the DOJ about his experience with Police Brutality in Portland.
Amanda Fritz has personally commended me for my work trying to help Benjamen Pickering and other people like him.
Loretta Smith refers to him as her bodyguard in reference to his protective kindness on an occasion when she was getting mobbed by reporters.
I have compiled extensive materials on Benjamen Pickering's health, with significant assistance from my mother Anne Eng, RN who works with brain injury patients at the Veteran's Administration.
It is my concern that Benjamen Pickering not be forced to sign any documents unless they are read to him, and that per his Washington Doctor's orders he not be exposed to any loud noises or cognitively draining experiences.
The need to avoid "brain strain" or physically exerting activities is very significant and i hope you received the doctor's letter which we faxed to Dawn Andrews.
I have asked her not to raise her voice at him on the phone or speak to him in a disrespectful tone.
The familial and personal resources i have invested in Ben Pickering's health and recuperation from the Police Brutality have been on a pro bono basis.
I am deeply concerned that the brutality has long term effects which will affect Ben Pickering in old age.
TBI patients who are subjected to additional blows to the head can suffer irreparable damage.
With Ben Pickering's consent i am happy to help you have access to Ben Pickering's records regarding our trip to the neurologist, the naturoath, the GP, and every ER visit, masseuse, and therapeutic resources we have engaged from the Brain Injury Alliance to the Oregon Commission for the Blind.
I have found this case extremely fascinating.
Ben Pickering's previous counsel Tom Borton was far more tactful, respectful, and helpful. It is a pity that Dawn Andrews and Ben Pickering are such a poor match, and that her understanding of TBI is so low that she would both raise her voice at him over the phone against doctor's orders, and allege he does not have dyslexia.
It was I, Mary Eng who discovered that Ben Pickering is blind in his left eye and reads right to left in his right eye. I informed Borton immediately. Ben Pickering has only met Dawn Andrews once in her office and once in court on July 24.
Dawn Andrews has failed promise to provide dyslexia assistance in transmitting the 911 calls and Karl Klundt and Cioetta Police reports have been denied Ben Pickering.
Please allow me to be of help, and i will try to help transmit any records you need.
i will attach jpegs of the original accident i have obtained from the Pickering Family.
i would be pleased to offer you the entire transmission which i have published on a blog here:
Please let me know how i can provide you with more jpegs, source materials, medical records, etc.
Thank you for your continued patience.
Please let me know if Ben Pickering can attend the next hearing via Skype or telephone. He is not allowed to drive and extensive travel is extremely hard on him and his extreme headaches. His doctor has requested 6 months rest at least. please see the link of this note.
Ben Pickering's finances have been depleted by this case against him. He has been robbed of his health. Some considerations for the financial hardship of this case should be due. IF i were rich i would have flown him to Atlanta, NYC, LA, or San Francisco for excellent Neurological care.
We have engaged many attys to advise us on how to proceed
Many Blessings hope to speak to you tomorrow.
Mary Eng

Ms. Eng,Following up on this matter with you. I have been in contact with Mr. Pickering’s attorney, Dawn Andrews, and we have discussed resolution of this case. Ms. Andrews indicated that she is familiar with you and your advocacy on behalf of Mr. Pickering. I assure you that we are trying to resolve this case in the most appropriate manner. Ms. Andrews has some additional work to do on the case before we can resolve the case. I anticipate she will request more time to finalize the work at the next hearing. I will have no objection to additional time for Ms. Andrews to complete the necessary evaluations. It is my hope to resolve this matter in the best interest of all those affected. Thank you.Glen R.
