A “Very Special” Snow Job
“Astoria’s a very special place, with very special geography, a very special river, very special people and very special history. We’re going to take care of our hometown as we should” — Mayor Willis Van Dusen speaking to a crowded public forum on the future of Astoria’s riverfront (April 8, 2008)

Van Dusen’s statement sounded great, but unfortunately Astoria’s residents and visitors are being spoon-fed a riverfront plan that is not exceptional. To be fair, perhaps Van Dusen was being totally open, and his use of “take care” was euphemistic slang meaning to “kill”, “bump-off”, or “knock off”.
