Georgia Alice Hoar, 85

Mrs. Georgia Alice Hoar passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2013, in the Crest Nursing Home. Georgia Alice was born to George and Edna (Tobin) Driscoll in Butte on May 28, 1927. She was raised in Dublin Gulch and was a star athlete at St. Mary’s Grade School. She graduated from Butte High with the class of 1945 and three days later, on her birthday, she married David Hoar. They settled in Butte and started their family.

Georgia was happiest as a wife and mother of four children. When they were all in school, she began her 25-year career at St. James Hospital where she worked in the nursery and later as a ward secretary. She also worked at Rocky Mountain Clinic and at the private office of Dr. Bartlett. Her last job was at the Belmont Senior Citizen Center where she helped with the Bingo games. She found Bingo games in many places around town and was a regular — and lucky. Active participation at

St. Mary’s and St. Patrick’s parishes reflected her deep faith and also allowed her to form many friendships. Certainly, the most profound friendships were formed on Belle Street where Georgia and Dave shared years of simple and ordinary family living. As a widow she felt safe and protected because she had real neighbors.

She will be best remembered by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren whose special life events she would never miss. So many little hands learned rock school on her steps. And some little feet hurried to the “the dangerous” in spite of her warnings. The mud and snow of Centerville were tracked through her doors generation after generation.

Her daughters remember shopping downtown with Mom and stopping at St. Mary’s Church on the trudge up the hill to put down our heavy packages and make a visit. It is so comforting to know that she has finally put down all her burdens and can be with Jesus and rest.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, David Orr, and also by her sisters Mary Kangas, Elaine Hoar, June Olson, and Jean McCracken. She is survived by her sister, Dee Dringle (Joe) and brother, Jack Dwyer (Darlene), daughters Diane Johnson, Marji McCaffery, and Mary Boognl (Al), by grandchildren Carrie Holder (Brent), Dave Orr, Tom O’Neill, Chris LaMiaux, R. J. O’Neill (Amber), Kelley O’Neill, Joe McCaffery (Toni), Scott Boognl, Al Boognl (Lori), and Adam Boognl (Jen), and by great-grandchildren Taylor, Ryan, Sidney, Trey, Kaylyn, Kolten, Kameryn, Leanna, Emma, Hannah, Ryan, Jayden, Keegan, Nolan, Noah, Kymber, Wyatt, Emily, and Magdalene, and by many wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family is most grateful to the staff of the Crest Nursing Home and to Highland Hospice for their many kindnesses and professional care.

Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Duggan-Dolan Mortuary with the rosary at 7 p.m.. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
