Rosemary Ann Olson-Jany, 58

Surrounded by her loving, and devoted, husband and family, Rosemary Ann Olson-Jany passed away on April 28, 2012, in Billings. In her 58 years, she touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Rosemary was born in Butte on May 13, 1953, to Russell and June Olson and spent her childhood living on the Butte Hill. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from Butte Central High School in 1971. She then went on to Montana State University in Bozeman, where she was active in the MSU student government and Pi Beta Phi sorority. Rosemary graduated from MSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in soci-ology, with an emphasis on criminal justice.
It was in college that she met David Jany, who was destined to become her soul mate and husband. They were married on Aug. 23, 1975, and cherished each other during their too-short 35 years of marriage. They have been blessed with two children and six grandchildren.
Rosie’s world revolved around her family, especially her grandchildren, who gave her strength in fighting her illness. She loved watching movies, reading books, building puzzles, and having sleep-overs with them. They never left her house without a treat and she saw every holiday as an opportunity to buy them gifts.
Everything she did, she did it “big,” from Christmas dinners and birthday parties to wedding receptions and kids’ school projects. She was creative and energetic and always made sure she had “too much” instead of not enough. She made Halloween costumes and Valentines and those closest to her probably had one of Rosie’s amazing cakes.
She was kind and generous; she always put the needs of others before herself. She made friends with people from all walks of life and truly cherished those friendships. She gave freely and loved deeply. She was passionate about people and opened her heart and home to many.
She is survived by her husband, David; daughter, Amy (Justin) Moser; son, Josh (Marcie) Jany; sister, Jenny (Mike) Regan; brother, Rusty (Pam) Olson; father-in-law, Larry Jany; brothers-in-law, Joe Jany and Rick Jany; sisters-in-law, Mary (Tim) O’Donnell, Kathy (Phil) Blaskovich, Laurie (Jim) Derby and Carol (Russ) Bloom. Rosemary’s cherished grandchildren include Kaleigh, A.J., and Jessie Moser and Alyssa, Cade, and Cole Jany. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that were always pictured on her refrigerator. She would definitely want them listed here as they were very special to her also: Michele (Brad) Sanders, Mike (Marie) Regan, Angie (Marcus) Duckwitz, Kaci (Danny) Jenkins, Kevin (Brianne) Regan, Susie (Jay) Helfrich, Dennis Regan, John Regan, Laura Regan, R.J. Olson, Andy Olson, Bryn (Jim Pat) Smith, Kyle (Larissa) Olson, Amber and Cody O’Donnell, Teresa, John and Christie Blaskovich, Weston and Morgan Derby, and Zeb, Jake and Maddie Bloom.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and June Olson, and mother-in-law, Rose Jany.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at Duggan Dolan Chapel in Butte. Parish Rosary will be conducted at 7 p.m. Liturgy of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Interment of ashes will immediately follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum. The family invites you to join them in a celebration of her life at the Butte Copper King Inn.
Special thanks are extended to the doctors and staff of Billings Clinic. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s, March of Dimes, and American Cancer Society.
“Rosemary, you are someone special, an angel in disguise. Thank you for always being there, with a listening ear, a caring smile, and gentle words so wise.”
