Portland right now giving you a look at the doors hear a hell people got it look inside at the damage in their only see tables and chairs in the streets taken out of businesses are the Veggie Grill comes to the tables were taken out and just left in the middle of the intersection of this damage is pretty significant right here we seen another bank I just a few blocks away that was also broken into by the Sprint store we saw some looting there I'd not too long ago maybe about a half an hour ago people and taking merchandise out and then about an hour and a half ago I was down it a Pioneer Place when people were running inside and and leaving after getting in there getting tonight a lot of graffiti a lot of damage to the businesses and the buildings and I we just heard I just be careful you don't know somebody's throwing something to ring something through the window or if the glass is just breaking out by itself because sometimes he's win king County or through the glass looking at all the damage and suddenly these windows could crash down on you and you could get us some serious cuts from that also earlier with some people breaking out windows I saw a homeless person that's really dangerous for those folks to cuz they're out here maybe minding their own business and it just trying to shelter and and then I'll come through and fix shattered glass flying around that so that's a dangerous situation for them to it also for people who just are coming out to look again just last can shatter and fall on you so it's a good idea to keep cracking right now even though nobody's inside we are cracking and falling and it makes us a little nervous so we're going to move away from this window please playing at this time buying all the stuff looks like police have a square a somewhat cleared out but you know again we see me small group so anything to pop off at any time I'm going to talk to back to you in the studio coming up on 2 a.m. Good morning right now and I think we have our Jenny guns standing by the Target yep Jeff Jeff Jennifer we're seeing people dude in this target but they dispersed as soon as I said and asked us for our producer to come to our shot they heard me say that so they ran off but people are in there stealing it's just tragic these most of the windows broken out I'm not sure who's inside that Target managing things right now. What are these companies these business owners doing right now I mean oh I just heard some glass shatter over here wow it's just individuals now it's not really groups just people running around breaking glass like this man right here wow wow yeah so that's that's what we're saying it's not so much groups right now it's just individuals kind of run into causing major Havoc breaking windows blue team we saw somebody like we said stealing from that Target earlier so i'm sorry server on my TV will talk to you afterwards though will talk to you in a minute by the glass that can cause some serious that can cause some serious injuries you know from people out here who came out here just to observe and see what's going on you know in downtown a lot of people out here to you guys in the studio by it right here in this area and other was in the situation we just had here at Target but again you just you just look at this. You just look at this. You just look at this. You know what are these companies doing right now I mean what is a manager or what is the manager of Target doing right now he's going to have to bring It come in and deal with this situation anymore in the middle of making like you heard commissioner Jo-Ann Hardesty he's heartbroken because we don't have time to deal with this and she did say you know this is not the way to honor on Earth voice memory and it's just it's too bad you don't I just want folks to take a look at the picture of the line of windows that are broken out because this is this is the downtown Target we're talking about here and this is important because this is a an area that has seen destruction before you might remember this was the target at the Centre of May Day riots back in 2017 we have the iconic footage of a protester killing of flare through the window. Turning point for our city and during those protests then so this is a target that has been targeted before and it's just it's really an incredible sight to see that and sort of take in that perspective and that car okay after 2 hours stop our live coverage here at the two hours we can see the lookout the let's get to Jennifer Dowling what do you have Forest Jennifer okay we're down at the Rite Aid near Pioneer Courthouse Square and I you can see that there's some people gas taking things out of there are also continuing to break the windows there goes somebody running out of their looks like they're grabbing some merchandise or bags or Friday material looks like they're turning away from our cameras do they realize that were actually rolling and I know they're running looks like this Rite Aid has been trashed like a lot of other businesses here in downtown Portland over to the Rite Aid where they are us running inside some people are are angry that we are out here shooting at this right now he can hear them yelling at us but there are people going in and out of that store the the front is completely smashed much like many businesses around here we just saw the First Republic broken glass are lots of looting cruising through the streets but they don't look like they're stopping it's just a wild situation out here is it it's it's constantly changing and it's very fluid so we also told lot of Windows broken at the Wells Fargo Building let me just see what we do here flashbangs saluting at several stores pioneer Place on a Sprint store in this Rite Aid store and that's going to give you a look inside what's going on looks like this window as completely been broken out I'll give him people ask someone just threw something on us it smells like beer I think they threw a beer on us anyway us a work we're getting hit out here right now it's a very very shortly want you to stay so it's it's not right so I want to give you some time to just sit with that and then get cleaned off work or catch your breath the destruction left behind by a night of rioting vandalism fires in Downey it is a night that will go down in history in this city and this was the scene about an hour and a half ago when they burn pallets at an intersection there were numerous fires down the night we will not forget in this scene was played out in other cities including Seattle even Eugene I don't know if it was played out to the extent it was here in Portland we lost count of how many businesses were broken into including the Pioneer Place Mall in downtown Portland with looting tonight we are not immune to large violent destructive protests which we have seen for several years and tonight is is unlike anything we've seen so this is a moment to come together and learn and move forward and in the short-term because this is this is unreal and unlike anything that I our people have seen and we have to sort of move through this day by day and really take this head on before we sort of encounter some of the underlined long-term the mayor says he will be talking with city leaders tomorrow and Community leaders so we probably hearing a lot more from the Mary says it's time to clean up the city and support all the businesses damaged time for the city to heal tonight when a lot of this song first broke out we saw the the peaceful protest with hundreds of protesters out and about in different parts of town from downtown to Peninsula Park and buy box i'm on the move in North Portland along MLK and then they crossed over the Burnside bridge and made their way down into back to downtown to the Justice Center which was some of the most shocking images right off the top of the eleventh hour when they were able to break windows at the Justice Center there and I'll start a fire and then from there we just continue to see fires like this car fires garbage cans 3 minutes after 2 in Portland and like I said we're not going to know the extent of this damage until daylight tomorrow and the mirror tonight I'll commissioner Hardesty Jeff and I noted made a very strong state making arrests as well as Prosecuting people and she is one who has said that. Record that is not something that she actively promotes but there are a lot of pictures and videos of the people who will be responsible for this damage what we continue to see people going in and out of the Rite Aid store down here west 6th near Pioneer Courthouse Square the windows are broken out you can see them going in helping themselves to merchandize always a police go by but they haven't stopped to address this particular issue being ripped out of business has splashed on it it's still a very aggressive crowd and dangerous they can hurt someone are we did see a salt industry groups fighting to look around but the people that are roving together in in groups at each other and encouraging each other with this Behavior such as going to the store one person sees one person go in the store as soon as I kind of think about it and then they move on in the like well if someone else is doing it I'm going to do it too so we seen a lot of that behavior happening out here Portland Police have a big presence we see fleas on their Vance the Tactical units of the 13th driving down the I will see them driving around Pioneer Courthouse Square with their lights on they also declare this or Riot and weren't evil they would use dispersal devices such as gas and flash-bang other things like that either rubber bullets to clear them out but completely broken out also along this stretch of road on Southwest Morrison and Southwest 6th and Wells Fargo windows are broken there we also saw some other bank ATM ATMs that have been broken into like the First Republic Bank ATM kiosk down there also broken aTM gotten into but the screens I've seen them smashed also we saw at Chase Bank to chase Cafe just a few minutes ago when we were alive Windows completely broken out there in the chase Cafe all right my right I see someone putting a cone in the street looks like a protester to block traffic just pick that up somewhere in and brought it over all right and so there's still a lot of activity down proud to broken off so I think it important that the crowds there have regulars who continue to go into the stores that have I've been broken into and frankly I think people in the city who are watching this or probably fed up with that I mean that is it's a blatant way to break the law there what's the situation right now okay silver morrison and you know there's just couple of people like you. We're here we demand Justice and it's not big groups right now it's just individuals some who are out here as protesters so I'm here out here just to see what's going on I just talked to her about five or six kids and their young young people in their twenties and I asked are you guys out here to protest they just came down here to see what was going on so it get again it is a lot of that but you know they're still a lot of people that you know your concerns like what what are they going to break next and I know what's going to happen next and when are police going to have to you know she's the tear gas and the flash bomb again you know because that is what we've been seeing all night all over down and look at this while we can't show you that because of the profanity but you have people over here just marching along the sidewalk holding up their posters black lives matter of course that's they're passing the Tory Burch store. What are the stores that is destroyed the front the front and the side of those windows just destroyed the Tory Burch store Louis Vuitton store live is high-end swords for breaking into on and looting from some of those stores in the Chase Bank because you earlier when they broke into it and set it on fire so I will send it will send it back to you guys and you guys right now unless you have any questions alright Jenny i'm seeing right now so here we are 8 minutes after 2 a.m. We see the crowd to send out we have stragglers but it seemed the folks that are left are some of the most violent this is where we've seen in the last hour a lot of breakage what are we the Target store jewelry store the Justice Center and a set of fire inside the Justice Center that happened at 11 tonight this is a night it will go down in Portland history this will be the night and will look back and say remember the violence of that night or butt. Amber this because this is unlike anything we've seen and we have covered large violent protests before and this is unlike anything that we have seen and so I was very hard to watch and we've had our leader say that as well and have said that they will be holding news warning especially about how to move forward as far as the cleanup process but also how to move forward on clearly what are some deep feelings and issues as we try to move forward as a country
