Disability Rights in Vancouver, WA
Hello,
I saw a video you posted on Youtube about Title II invisible disabilities in Portland, Oregon. Do you know anyone working on this issue in Vancouver, Washington?
I've been discriminated against by County employees at the court house, the law library, and the prosecutor's office. I'm going to try to force them to follow our Disability Discrimination Laws.
I'm looking to connect with disability discrimination advocates who can help me figure out how to hold my local government responsible for their violations of our collective discrimination laws.
Please forgive me,redacted
I'm in Washington state and we have some good disability discrimination laws but it doesn't seem like local government workers are actually follow the rules/laws, etc. A Superior Court Judge denied my motion for a continuance and refused to write down that my request was made due to my disability. The Court Administrator didn't explain way they denied me the accommodations I had asked for. The Prosecutor's used my disability as a reason why they dropped the charges against the Stalker who was harassing me. The law library changed their rules so that I cannot use there computer for more than 1 hour each day.
I think if I'm successful, more people with disabilities in my state will be able to access the justice system and there may be more appointments of counsel for those who cannot cognitively represent their own legal interests.
My argument is the Judicial Branch has a duty to appoint, train, and supervise attorneys to effectively represent qualifying disabled litigants and victims.
Do you know anyone working on this issue? Do you know anyone that can provide any help or guidance about how to transform the way my local government implements the disability discrimination laws as they relate to the courts?
I can provide more information, etc.
